Angels Down Yankees, 5-3
|
With left fielder Miguel Valenzuela leading the charge, the Anaheim Angels defeated the New York Yankees, 5-3, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Valenzuela, who finished 5th in the NL in OPS with .930 in 2009, went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Anaheim is now 28-18, New York 22-21.
Valenzuela contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Anaheim in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-0, Valenzuela took a curveball from Doug Fister and stroked the home run to left. His 7th home run of the season allowed the Angels to leap in front, 4-2.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Anaheim manager Dustin Reed. "It's usually not just one thing."
