Baltimore Beats Cleveland, 6-1
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Cleveland Spiders home opener. Steve Woodard started for the home team against Clayton Richard for the Baltimore Orioles. The Spiders were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-1, Baltimore. Steve Woodard, though, was impressive. Clayton Richard got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits in 6 innings.
The Orioles got a big at-bat from first baseman David Wright. For the game, Wright was 1-4 with a double. In the top of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Baltimore a 2-1 lead.
Wright called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
