The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-6, at Citizens Bank Park today. Leading the charge for New York was third baseman Nomar Garciaparra. He was 2-5 with 2 triples, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Joba Chamberlain earned the save, his 2nd. New York goes to 4-1.
With New York leading 4-1 in the top of the fourth, Garciaparra hit a sinker from Steve Kline for a bases-clearing triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 7-1.
"We maximized our offense today," said New York skipper Ellis Burks. "That makes everyone's life easier."
