Braves Losers, 7-6, Versus Cincinnati
|
The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Atlanta Braves, 7-6, at Great American Ballpark. Jed Lowrie, who is tied for 8th in the NL in doubles with 8, was a standout performer for Cincinnati. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Cincinnati reliever Scott Williamson picked up the win to move to 1-0. Jim Miller suffered the loss. Picking up his 1st save was fireballing right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen.
Cincinnati took a 7-6 lead on Franklin Gutierrez's 1st double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Gutierrez hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Atlanta pitcher Jim Miller visibly frustrated.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Cincinnati manager Darren Dreifort.
The win leaves Cincinnati with a record of 9-17.
