Angels Beat Athletics, 8-6
|
The Anaheim Angels outlasted Brian Rike and the Oakland Athletics, 8-6. Rike was impressive in the loss. The Oakland designated hitter went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Allan Simpson, credited with the save, is now 21 for 27 in save opportunities. Anaheim has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
Danny Esquivel had a big 2-run home run for the Angels in the bottom of the first inning. With Anaheim leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from three-time All-Star Stevenson Agosto and punished it. The result was his 20th home run of the season, which put the Angels on top, 3-0.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Anaheim manager Ken Frailing.
