Yankees Paste Spiders, 12-1
|
The New York Yankees downed the Cleveland Spiders, 12-1, at Jacobs Field. Giancarlo Stanton led the way, going 4-for-6 for New York. The win puts New York at 85-67 this season.
The Yankees got an important contribution from center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who in the top of the second knocked a full count curveball to right-center for a 3-run home run. It was his 28th home run of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 5-0.
"We got plowed under," said losing manager Larry Rothschild. "Period. Full stop."
