Red Sox Lose Late, 4-2
|
2012 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Boston Red Sox.
The New York Mets faced a tough opponent in Boston pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Fenway Park by a final score of 4-2. Jimenez went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Joe Nathan was the winner in relief. His record is now 6-0. The losing pitcher was Mike Crudale. Bobby Jenks closed the door for New York, picking up his 38th save of the year.
New York used the timely hitting of Ruben Reyes to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning is not something we take for granted," Reyes said.
With the win, New York upped its record to 90-57.
