Toronto Dealt 2-1 Defeat
|
The New York Yankees wanted a good start from Javy Guerra -- and he delivered one. The result was a 2-1 New York win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. Guerra picked up the win for New York, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 16-4. The first-place Yankees have won 6 straight games.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Yankees had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when center fielder Matt Kemp hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Jose Ceda and made the score 2-1, Yankees. Kemp was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles.
"First place," said Yankees manager Ellis Burks. "This is right where we want to be."
