The Cincinnati Reds had to overcome a fine effort from Atlanta pitcher Jason Schmidt to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Great American Ballpark. Schmidt went 7.2 innings and allowed 5 runs. Jim Johnson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 35 of 40 save opportunities. The Reds, at 76-61, lead by one game in their division.

Jesus Aravjo drove in one run for Cincinnati. The 29-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jason Schmidt. It was his 85th RBI of the season.

Aravjo said his team "played with determination."
