Red Sox Nip Marlins, 4-3
|
The Florida Marlins got a superb performance from pitcher Wade Miley, but the Boston Red Sox still won the game, 4-3. Miley threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball. With the win over Florida, the Red Sox improved to 49-85.
The game-ending blow was delivered by Marcus Thames in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a solo home run off 30-year old right-handed pitcher Casey Janssen to win it for Boston and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.
"We need to get rid of the bad mojo," said Thames. "Maybe this win will help."
