Multi-HR Game for Vargas in 6-1 Win
The Texas Rangers topped the Anaheim Angels by a score of 6-1. Leading the way was first baseman Henry Vargas. Vargas was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Rangers. Paul Maholm got credit for the win, improving to 15-9. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 7 innings. The first-place Rangers, at 83-50, now lead their division by 2½ games.

Vargas had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 1-2 fastball from Chris Mears, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead. It was the 32nd home run of the year for Vargas.

Vargas told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
