Orioles Score Late, Topple Spiders, 4-2
|
The Cleveland Spiders got a sterling performance from pitcher Matt Clement, but the Baltimore Orioles still prevailed, 4-2. Clement threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Jonathan Papelbon picked up the win in relief for Baltimore, while Daigoro Rondon took the loss. Joe McFarlane was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 17 save opportunities.
Will McCrotty, the 30-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. McCrotty contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Baltimore up, 4-2.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Baltimore skipper Alan Johnson. "I can't complain."
The Orioles move to 59-73 with the win, while the Spiders drop to 71-62.
