Johnson Homers Twice in 8-0 Astros Win
|
Houston third baseman Kelly Johnson helped his team beat the Washington Wizards, 8-0. Johnson, who is tied for 9th in the NL in hits with 18, went 3 for 5 for the Astros. Fernando Rijo, who is a five-time All-Star, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. The Astros, now 12-3, have been red hot.
With Houston leading 5-0 in the top of the ninth, Johnson came up to bat against Washington pitcher Edwin Benitez. Johnson hit a changeup to right for a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Astros on top, 8-0.
"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Rich Hinton.
