Cardinals Lose to Cincinnati, 5-3
|
Cincinnati Reds starter James Shields pitched a strong game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, leading the Reds to victory, 5-3. The winning pitcher was Shields, now 3-2. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 3. After today's action, Cincinnati sits at 60-69; St. Louis slips to 48-82.
Cincinnati went up, 5-1, on Adam Dunn's 19th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Dunn hit in the top of the eighth, left St. Louis pitcher Brandon Gomes shaking his head.
"James has the heart of a gladiator," said Cincinnati manager Darren Dreifort.
