Pirates Win at St. Louis, 5-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a superb performance from pitcher Andrew Miller, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still won the game, 5-3. Miller threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Mitch Talbot earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 1-1. The last-place Pirates have won 4 consecutive games.
The result might have been different for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Mark Loretta, the two-time All-Star . Loretta stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Pittsburgh up, 4-3. For the game, he had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Loretta told the Pittsburgh Bulletin.
