Athletics Victorious at Vancouver, 7-4
|
Oakland and Vancouver duked it out and the Athletics came out victorious.
The Oakland Athletics picked up a win at Telus Centre, dropping the Vancouver Mounties, 7-4. Stevenson Agosto, who finished 3rd in the AL in strikeouts with 221 in 2004, was the difference-maker. In 6.1 innings, Agosto surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Justin Hampson recorded the save, his 5th.
Oakland relied on the bat of André Severino to get the win. The designated hitter ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Athletics ahead, 5-1. For the game, Severino had 1 double and 1 triple in 4 at-bats.
"Stevenson pitched like a champ," said Oakland manager Dave Gumpert.
Oakland is now 56-49, Vancouver 58-47.
