Cardinals Dump Tigers, 5-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a fine performance by Detroit third baseman Brendan Harris to defeat the Tigers, 5-3, at Comerica Park. Harris slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Josh Beckett got the win, improving to 9-6. He held the Tigers to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The first-place Cardinals go to 56-45.
Delmon Young, the 23-year old right fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Young contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put St. Louis up, 4-0.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Young told the St. Louis Bulletin.
