Host Giants Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
|
Despite a great performance by Tampa Bay starter Cole Hamels, the Houston Astros defeated the Giants by the score of 6-1 at Tropicana Field. Hamels threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball, but he couldn't prevent the Astros from moving one game closer to the World Series. Houston now leads the Championship Series 3-2.
Michael Brantley provided a timely hit. The Houston center fielder delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Astros on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"No time for flexing," said Brantley. "It's always one game at a time."
Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
