With 3-1 Win, Reds Improve to 50-43
|
Great American Ballpark was the site of a tense game between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds.
The bats were silent much of the day at Great American Ballpark. But Jesse Gutierrez conjured up just enough offense to carry the Reds past the Atlanta Braves, 3-1. Gutierrez went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Luther Hackman, the winner, improved to 6-6. He held the Braves to 1 run on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 0.
Gutierrez contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Cincinnati in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 1-0, Gutierrez took a changeup from Jason Schmidt and stroked the home run to right. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Reds to leap in front, 2-1.
"Feels good to get the job done," Gutierrez said after the game.
The Reds now have a mark of 50-43.
