The 3-hit performance of Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who finished 5th in the AL in RBI with 113 last year, helped the New York Yankees beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-2. At 49-45, New York is in first place in the AL East Division.
With New York leading 3-1 in the top of the fourth, Nieuwenhuis hit a fastball from Edwin Andrade for a 3-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 6-1.
Said losing manager Mario Reeves: "Give the Yankees credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."
