Pirates Victors, 6-1, at New York
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates downed the New York Mets, 6-1, at Shea Stadium. Stellar pitching by Chris Reitsma had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. The winning pitcher was Reitsma, now 6-3. He tossed 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 2. Pittsburgh currently is in third place in the NL Central Division at 43-51.
Pittsburgh right fielder Bryce Harper contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a changeup to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 34th hit of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 6-0.
"Chris executed his pitches at a high level," said Pittsburgh manager Robby Thompson.
