Late Rally by White Sox Seals 4th Straight Win
|
The Chicago White Sox eked out a 3-2 win versus the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Clint Brannon. He was terrific. Scott Strickland earned his 16th save in 16 chances. Chicago, at 41-39, holds down second place in the AL Central Division.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Alcides Escobar to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the White Sox on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Afterward, White Sox manager Carlton Fisk was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
