Cardinals Over Wizards, 4-1
|
Kris Medlen pitched well, but the Washington Wizards still lost the game, falling 4-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals at Wizards Park. Jake Peavy earned the save, his 3rd, for the Cardinals. With the win, St. Louis has a record of 45-34. Washington falls to 50-28.
St. Louis got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Pedro Alvarez. The third baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Alvarez told the St. Louis Bulletin.
