Marlins Nipped by Astros, 2-1
|
The Houston Astros got a magnificent performance from pitcher Chris Carpenter, who muffled the Florida offense en route to a tight, 2-1 Astros win at Minute Maid Park. Carpenter yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 8. His record improves to 9-2. Daigoro Rondon collected his 4th save.
Houston catcher Chris Iannetta contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 53rd hit of the season and put the Astros ahead, 2-1.
"Chris did a good job of managing their lineup," said Houston manager Craig Biggio.
The loss makes Florida 42-34.
