Houston got a strong outing from Fernando Rijo as the Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics, 5-2, at Oakland Coliseum. Emerson Bello picked up the save for Houston, his 21st of the year. Houston has an impressive 53-17 record.

Houston used the timely hitting of Michael Brantley to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Astros on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Fernando just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Houston manager Craig Biggio.
