Chicago Squanders Big Game by Ellsbury
|
Despite a fine performance by center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, the Chicago Cubs lost to the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-6. Ellsbury hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Andrew Cashner, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. Chris Perez recorded the save for St. Louis, his 1st of the season.
St. Louis took advantage of an error in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 6-6, when Jorge Cantu hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Cardinals in front, 7-6.
"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Jeff Normore, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."
With the loss, Chicago falls to 0-7.
