Cincinnati Gets 5-3 Win
|
The Detroit Tigers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Matt Shoemaker into a win. Instead, the Cincinnati Reds prevailed, 5-3. Shoemaker threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Andrew Baldwin, who is tied for 9th in the NL in complete games with 1, was the winner. He's now 3-10. The loser was Darwin Peguero. Getting the save was Tom Wilhelmsen, his 1st.
Had Hainley Statia not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Statia hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Reds.
"We ground out the win," said Statia. "That's all that matters."
The win has Cincinnati at 26-42.
