Red Sox Down Giants, 4-2
|
The Boston Red Sox took Tampa Bay pitcher Brian Carpenter's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Fenway Park. The final score had Boston getting past the Giants, 4-2. Carpenter went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 7. The winner was Boston reliever Jake Arrieta, now 2-1. The loser was Nick Brannon. The current losing streak for Tampa Bay has reached 5 games.
Boston won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out and Nick Brannon on the mound for Tampa Bay, center fielder Tony Mora hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Red Sox fans to their feet.
"Been a rough stretch for us," said Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon.
