Ruiz Blisters Grand Rapids Tuesday, July 31st , 2007 Stamford catcher Carlos Ruiz had a big day at Destroyers Grounds against the Grand Rapids Dragons. The 28-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-5 and led to the 11-5 Destroyers triumph over Grand Rapids. "Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Ruiz said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all." Carlos Ruiz singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jimmy Serrano in the 6th and doubled in the 8th. In his 2007 season totals, Ruiz has 8 home runs, .309 BA, .376 OBP, 50 RBIs and 50 runs scored. |
