San Diego Wins Wild Card Series
Wednesday, October 19th , 2011
The Wild Card Series may not have lived up to the expectation that it would be a dogfight that would go the distance. The San Diego Padres, however, are not complaining.
The Padres were plenty happy to have wrapped up the series early and to have knocked out the Los Angeles Dodgers to advance to the League Championship Series.
San Diego won the final game by a 5-0 count at Jack Murphy Stadium and the series 4-2.
Padres right fielder Lance Berkman was named series MVP, as he hit .318 with a .423 on-base percentage. He added 4 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 8 runs.
"It's not going to be the last time Los Angeles makes it to the playoffs, so it's sure a nice feeling to put them out this year," Berkman said. "We just need to keep this going and take it day by day."
The San Diego Padres will play against the Cincinnati Reds in the next round. Cincinnati won their series against the Montreal Expos 4 games to 1. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Wild Card Series finishes.
