Mariners Need Extra Frames to Get Past Yankees
|
Fans watched the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees fight to the finish.
The Seattle Mariners weathered an outstanding game by New York center fielder Terrence Long to topple the Yankees, 7-6. Long went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Jon Lieber converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Cody Hill to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mariners on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"It was terrific getting this win," Hill said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
With the victory, the Mariners upped their record to 43-27.
