Chicago Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WC
The Chicago Cubs got a strong performance from pitcher Derek Holland, who stymied the Montreal offense en route to a 4-2 win in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series. The Expos could never get a bead on the left-handed Holland, who threw 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The Cubs now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

Had Darin Ruf not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Ruf hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Cubs.

Said losing manager Daniel Blanton: "Give the Cubs credit. They played a better game than we did."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
