The Minnesota Twins started the Wild Card Series in style, downing the visiting Seattle Mariners at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome by a score of 4-1 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Twins catcher Brian McCann slugged 3 home runs.

Chone Figgins dealt the Mariners a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 3rd and Minnesota leading 2-1, Figgins, who finished 2nd in the AL in triples with 8 last year, hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring double.

Figgins said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis.
