Big Day for Delgado as Mariners Down Yankees, 6-2
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown New York Yankees take on the Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners defeated the New York Yankees, 6-2, at Yankee Stadium. Seattle first baseman Carlos Delgado had a superb performance. He was 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Seattle reliever Bartolo Colon snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Travis Harper shouldered the loss. John Lackey, who is tied for 10th in the AL in saves with 8, nailed down the save.
Early in the game, Delgado had a grand slam home run for Seattle. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Mariners on top, 4-0.
Seattle manager Jeff Reese praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The triumph puts Seattle at 32-23 for the season.
