Cincinnati starter Mike Mello had a strong outing against the Montreal Expos at Riverfront Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. The win elevated the Reds to 28-27.

Steve Finley had a productive at-bat for the Reds with two out in the bottom of the seventh. With a runner on 2nd, the designated hitter hit a run-scoring double. The at-bat was important in the Cincinnati win.

"We played hard and won," said Mello. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
