Mariners Need Extra Frames to Get Past Yankees
Led by Richie Sexson, the Seattle Mariners defeated the New York Yankees, 12-11. Sexson slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5 for the Mariners. Seattle reliever Derek Lowe was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Billy Wagner took the loss. The win gives Seattle a season record of 21-15.

Seattle won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With no outs and Billy Wagner on the mound for New York, pinch hitter Jermaine Dye hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Mariners fans to their feet.

"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Dye said.
