Gutierrez Smacks 5 Hits for Blue Jays
Toronto right fielder Franklin Gutierrez went down swinging at Tiger Stadium, knocking out 5 hits even as his Blue Jays fell, 14-9.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Gutierrez said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Detroit Tigers. "No offense meant to Detroit, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the right fielder's improvements, saying Gutierrez spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Gutierrez agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Franklin Gutierrez hit a two-run home run off Joe Saunders in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Derrick Turnbow in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

Thus far this season, Gutierrez has hit .236 with 12 home runs, 62 RBIs and scored 44 times.
