Late Magic Gets Cedar Rapids 6-3 Win
|
Great Lakes got a terrific performance from pitcher Dan Gaalswyk, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Cedar Rapids won the Dow Diamond contest, 6-3. Gaalswyk threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Cedar Rapids pitcher Jorge Hincapie earned the win, hiking his record to 2-2. Kevin Haines suffered the loss. The 5th-place Kernels bumped their record to 47-50.
Cedar Rapids used a timely hit from Gabriel Emerson to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Kernels ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a difference-maker.
Emerson called the win "good for the psyche of this team."
