Kernels Prevail, 3-1, Over Burlington
|
The Cedar Rapids Kernels picked up a win at Veterans Memorial Stadium, knocking off the Burlington Bees, 3-1. Starting pitcher Ireno Grego was a big reason why. Grego yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 5-6. At 30-35, the Kernels find themselves in 6th place in the Western Division.
Danny Barreras hit a 2-run home run off Mike Weihrauch in the bottom of the first, which put the Kernels ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, Barreras had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
Grego called the win "a team effort."
