Expos Get Past Cincinnati for 3-2 Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Montreal Expos and the Cincinnati Reds, pitcher Erik Dickman was the difference between victory and defeat. The Montreal right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Expos win. Reliever Mike Johnson picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Marco Gonzales took the loss. The save went to Mike Fenchel, number 8 for him.
In the bottom of the eighth, Montreal right fielder Steve Dowdle stroked a run-scoring double to right-center field. The clutch hit put the Expos in front, 3-2.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Dickman told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
The loss drops Cincinnati to 10-10.
