Late Rally by Nationals Secures 3-2 Win
|
Nationals Park was the site of a competitive game between the Seattle Mariners and Washington Nationals.
Though he had a great game, Billy Christman could not single-handedly produce a win for Seattle. Washington won the game, 3-2. Christman went 3-4 with 2 home runs. The winner in relief was Bobby Pudney. He is now 1-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. The save went to Jake Martinson, his 1st this season.
Had Wilburt Goldman not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Goldman hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Nationals.
Goldman attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Washington sits at 8-10.
