Myrtle Beach Beats Salem, 6-4
|
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans racked up a win at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark, bumping off the Salem Red Sox, 6-4. George Cannon, who started for Myrtle Beach, pitched effectively for his team. Cannon, the winner, moves to 12-6. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 2 walks. Dave Murphy closed the door for Myrtle Beach, picking up his 6th save of the year.
One of the stars of the game was Myrtle Beach left fielder Josh Swanda. In the bottom of the third with two out, he got a sinker from Ron Heard and hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-1 in favor of the Pelicans.
"Feels good to get the job done," Swanda said after the game.
At 59-48, the Pelicans find themselves in second place in the Southern Division.
