Yankees Win, Armendariz hits 2 home runs
|
The New York Yankees clobbered the Cleveland Guardians, 12-3, at Progressive Field. New York first baseman Israel Armendariz led the onslaught. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Butch Allen was the winner. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Cleveland, now 3-13, continues its dreadful start.
David Herrera hit a 2-run double off Butch Eggleston in the top of the second, which put the Yankees in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Herrera had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.
"We had that killer instinct," Herrera said after the game.
