Mariners Trip White Sox, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring clash between Seattle and Chicago, pitcher Luis Gutierrez was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned accolades in the 1-0 win. In 5 innings, Gutierrez surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Dan Liggins.
Seattle used a well-timed hit by Dan Knutson to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mariners ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Knutson.
The Mariners have hit the ground running, raising their record to 9-3. While it's still too soon to talk about Seattle hoisting their 1st World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
