The Washington Nationals turned back the New York Mets, 5-4, at Nationals Park. Edgar Rodriguez, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Bobby Pudney. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. The loss makes New York 4-4.

The clutch at-bat in the bottom of the ninth belonged to Rodriguez. Facing Nader Lugono with a runner on 1st, the Washington designated hitter had a run-scoring double. Game over, walk-off style!
