Athletics Best Mariners in Pitching Duel
|
The Oakland Athletics claimed a close win over the Seattle Mariners, due in large part to Dave Walter. The Oakland right-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-0 win. In 5 innings, Walter surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 5. He allowed no runs. The Athletics raised their record to 3-0.
Su-chang Ahn had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Oakland. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Oakland in front, 2-0.
Afterward, Athletics manager Chuck James was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
