Red Sox Topple Reds, 7-5
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds.
The Boston Red Sox overcame a fine performance by Cincinnati left fielder Jose Sanchez to defeat the Reds, 7-5, at Great American Ball Park. Sanchez was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Chad Coleman got the win, improving to 11-11. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 1.
Boston relied on the hitting of Sal Madrid to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning to put the Red Sox on top, 6-0. For the game, Madrid had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Good win for us," said Madrid. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
The 4th-place Red Sox improved to 66-86.
