Cardinals Scratch Out 2-1 Win
|
Despite the rain, the fans at Busch Stadium enjoyed a good ballgame.
St. Louis left-hander Caleb Hellmann helped his team edge Chicago by the score of 2-1. Hellmann kept the opposing lineup in check. The winning pitcher was Hellmann, now 8-9. He tossed 5 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 7. Alex Velasquez closed the door for St. Louis, picking up his 43rd save of the year.
Terry Smith tagged a home run off Josh Robinson in the bottom of the third. His 2-run blast put the Cardinals on top, 2-0. In all, Smith had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"I felt we were ready to go," said St. Louis manager Garrett Parcell. "Our pregame was pretty good."
With the win, St. Louis pushed its record to 82-68.
