Giants Score Late, Stun Cardinals, 5-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a superb performance from pitcher Caleb Hellmann. Still, it wasn't enough to beat San Francisco. The Giants won the game, 5-3. Hellmann threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. San Francisco reliever Alex Aponte was the winner. His record is now 3-2. The losing pitcher was Erick Ramirez. The Giants, at 53-92, sit in last place in the National League West Division.
Chris Kaiser drove in one run for San Francisco. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Kaiser, who is tied for 4th in the NL with a .387 on-base percentage, had a clutch at-bat. Facing St. Louis hurler Erick Ramirez, he got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.
"Good win for us," said Kaiser. "We'll lace up our cleats and go after the next one."
