Tigers Drop Red Sox, 5-2, with Late Score
|
Detroit Tigers starter Mitch Abrams was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Boston Red Sox, 5-2. Detroit reliever Alex Perez picked up the win to move to 4-1. Charlie Bartholomew suffered the loss. Eric Corbett was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 32 of 36 save opportunities.
Jorge Mendoza's at-bat with no one out in the top of the ninth was critical. The Detroit first baseman drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to put his team on top, 3-2. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Abrams.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 66-78.
